Our District

The 71st Legislative District represents more than 59,000 constituents within much of the immediate Johnstown area.

There are a total of 14 municipalities, including the:

• City of Johnstown
• Boroughs of Brownstown, Daisytown, Dale, East Conemaugh, Ferndale, Franklin, Geistown, Lorain, Southmont and Westmont
• Townships of Conemaugh (Cambria County), Richland and Stonycreek

School districts found within the District include:

• Conemaugh Valley
• Greater Johnstown
• Ferndale Area
• Richland
• Westmont Hilltop

While the 71st District is compact, it is quite diverse. According to the 2000 Census, municipalities ranged in size from Daisytown (population: 356) to the City of Johnstown (population: 23,906). The median family income was $28,456 in Dale and $64,185 in Westmont. In East Conemaugh, 18.3% of families lived below the poverty level, compared to 4% in Geistown.

The 71st District representative must know all of these municipalities, including their problems, challenges and goals. That’s why I’m sitting in on all of these municipalities’ meetings – to learn what I can before heading to Harrisburg.
