Why Vote for Me?
My priorities are to care about your problems, your goals and to work hard for you in Harrisburg.
I have a record of public service as a:
- Member of the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Company for the past 32 years; where I served as president, vice president and deputy fire chief.
- Ferndale Borough police officer for 26 years.
- Ferndale Borough Councilman for 18 years.
- Ferndale Borough Recreation Commission member for 18 years.
Because of my municipal and emergency service experience, I know the problems faced by the municipalities of the 71st District and their emergency services providers.
- Today it costs volunteer fire companies $2,000 to equip each firefighter.
- The Cambria County requirement to upgrade emergency radios cost the Ferndale Fire Company $40,000.
- One common local issue is the need of all municipalities, feeding into the Johnstown Regional Sewage System, to upgrade their systems to eliminate system overloading at the Dornic Point Treatment Plant – and to end the discharge of raw sewage into local rivers.
- I have many contacts among the municipalities and emergency services of the Greater Johnstown area.
- I’m currently sitting in on meetings within the 14 municipalities of the 71st District to learn first-hand about specific problems they are facing.
Like so many other residents of the 71st District, I’ve worked hard over the years. I’ve been:
- Employed in paying work since the age of 12.
- Employed by the American Red Cross since 1980, starting as a truck driver and working my way into a supervisory position.
- Self-employed as “DJ Riggs” since 1978.
As a married man with three children, I know the problems facing families within the 71st District, including the:
- Tax burdens on families.
- Need for more quality jobs to keep local young people from leaving the area.
I am Pro-Life, Pro-Family, and Pro-Gun.
A vote for Rigby for Representative is a vote for:
- An experienced public servant ready to take his commitment to Harrisburg.
- “Just Jim” – the candidate who typifies the residents of the 71st District.
- A committed representative willing to walk away from a 29-year career to accept the challenge of representing Greater Johnstown in Harrisburg.
